2100:
Eclipse of Humanity

Statement

In 2100, I explore speculative futures through expressive typography, translating personal narratives into visual dialogues. I interviewed a person who shared their vision of a predicted future (the return of a dark age) and then translated it into typographic expression, where letters, spacing, and scale serve not merely as text but as a medium to convey meaning, emotion, and the instability of a future in flux. Type is stretched, rotated, fragmented, and layered to reflect both the weight of societal collapse and the uncertainty of a looming dark age. Typography becomes both my lens and my subject, bridging personal reflection with collective speculation and allowing stories to unfold visually as well as intellectually.

Grounded in Swiss typographic principles of clarity, structure, and precision, I balance strict grids with experimental interventions. By manipulating type to mirror narrative tension, I convey the erosion and reconstruction of meaning, suggesting how knowledge, memory, and communication might fracture in 2100. Typography enacts the narrative itself, revealing the intimate, speculative, and transformative potential of visual language, where order and disruption coexist to illuminate the possibilities and perils of a future dark age.
